Internet access
For the internet access at the University of Jena, students are provided with an access to the wireless network eduroam. With their access to eduroam, students are also able to use the wireless eduroam network at many universities worldwideExternal link. Enrolment in courses
You can use FriedolinExternal link to view the courses on offer, register for selected courses, find initial organisational information on the respective courses and register for examinations. Here you will find training courses on how to use Friedolin (in English).
To access Friedolin, you will need your URZ code and the corresponding password. You received these when you enrolled.

Learning platform for your studies (Moodle)
Teachers often provide various materials for the courses via the central learning platform MoodleExternal link. Enrolment in the Moodle rooms is usually automatic (it is linked to enrolment and admission in Friedolin) or is carried out by the lecturers. Ask your lecturers whether materials are provided via Moodle or whether there is a Moodle course room accompanying the course. To access Moodle, you will need your URZ code and the corresponding password. You received these when you enrolled.
Digital examinations are currently conducted regularly via the so-called examination server External link. You can obtain detailed information on the examination process from the lecturers.

The University of Jena's cloud: file storage, collaboration and work organisation
You can store your own materials in the University CloudExternal link so that you can access them at any time. You can also share selected documents with your fellow students in this way. To log in, you will need your URZ ID and the corresponding password.
With the University Cloud "Tasks" functionExternal link, you can create lists, add deadlines to tasks and tick off completed tasks. The "Deck" function of the University CloudExternal link can be used to support the organisational aspects of group work or a project. This way, milestones and tasks can be defined and visualised.

Internet security
If you access the internet via the university's own VPN access, you protect yourself from attackers. To protect yourself from fraud on the internet, you can sign emails with electronic certificates. The university also offers a service for this. All information on digital certificates can be found here.External link
For protection against viruses, the University offers Sophos for members of the University of Jena. All information about Sophos and virus protection at the university can be found here (in German) de.

Videoconferencing
Zoom (link to a German page)External link enables a synchronised exchange with your fellow students. You can create as many Zoom rooms as you like by logging in with your URZ ID and password. The University of Jena automatically provides you with a licence for Zoom so that you can hold meetings of any length. Here you can find a tutorial on how to use Zoom for group work. When signing in, use the "SSO" option and log in with your URZ abbreviation and password.
In addition, the University of Jena offers the possibility to use MS Teams (link to a German page)External link. In order to use MS Teams, all participants (lecturers and students) must be registered for Office 365 (link to a German page)External link, which is free of charge for students and employees of the University of Jena.

Support with term papers and final theses
Using reference management programmes and associated plug-ins for word processing programmes, it is possible to automatically create reference lists and automatically insert literature into the text. Recording of screencasts/videos
Using Opencast StudioExternal link, you can record your screen and camera image with sound directly from your web browser and download it as a video without registering or downloading.
Recording with Opencast StudioExternal link is also possible directly in Moodle for registered users. Please note, however, that you must be assigned a separate role in the Moodle course room. Please contact the person responsible for teaching the course.
With MS PowerPoint, you can insert a screen recording into the presentation in the "Insert" tab and also save it from there.
